2-1-11 The FDA rejects the new weight management medication Contrave despite their own advisory panel voting 13 to 7 to in October of 2010 to make this medication available in the US. This is the third new weight management medication rejected by the FDA in just 5 months. Abbott Pharmaceuticals voluntarily withdrew Meridia another weight management medication under pressure from the FDA in October 2010 leaving very little options in terms of medical interventions for weight management. With obesity and obesity related diseases crippling our healthcare system we hope that soon the FDA will look less critically at new drug therapies. We can only hope that new and improve medical therapies will soon be in the hands of the medical community.
